Love Whiteface! It's the crown jewel of East Coast ski mountains (and yes, it is a true mountain) and our family's favorite ski resort. It's part of the Canadian Shield mountain chain, not the Appalachians like all other mountains in the East, and Whiteface gets colder conditions and more snow than other resorts in the region. At 3500ft+ it has some serious vertical (hence why it was host to the winter Olympics, twice!). The Bear Den is an entirely separate area for beginners and families, replete with its own lifts, trails, lodge (including rentals, food, clean bathrooms) and parking areas. That alone is worth it for families especially those with younger kids, since it's a safe area away from the main slopes, including the Flying Squirrel beginner terrain park that is a great place to learn smaller jumps and features. The variety of trails is great for beginners up through experts, with a solid mix of true greens all the way to true blacks and double blacks, with many glade runs and side hits galore. The peaks offer fantastic views, and you can have a great time without ever going up beyond the middle mountain. The mid-mountain Legacy Lodge is a nice respite for warming up, grabbing a quick bite and using the restroom. The lifts were all in great shape, attendants were polite and had things under control (even when a couple guys tried to jump the line and were promptly booted). Lines were very reasonable, and RFID cards worked well most of the time (any issues were promptly resolved by lift attendants). Food options on the mountain are only decent, and while Whiteface itself isn't a top apres ski destination, nearby Lake Placid and Saratoga Springs more than make up for that. Terrain parks are offer a great range of features. Whiteface is our favorite ski mountain hands down! Set in the beautiful High Peaks region of the Adirondacks, Whiteface caters to real people who enjoy good times outdoors on the mountain. It's not a pretentious snobby gear competition like so many resorts these days (see all Ikon and Epic resorts). My only real gripe is that I can't get there enough!

First time hear with the family we do a family ski week every year never skied whiteface before first time definitely the best mountain on the east cost by far will be coming back next year

Whiteface is the east coast equivalent of a perfectly cooked Wagyu steak, don't come here if you cannot appreciate the juicy steeps and tender snow. Of course it gets icy on Paron's run/Riva ridge, what can one expect from the only blue groomer in the summit area. Upper skyward is a TRIP when it's got a good groom on it. Glades are challenging and BUTTERY. The tallest lift-served mtn in the east, coupled with its latitude means on the right day you can catch some serious BLOWER pow. You can do 3200 vert in like 7 minutes (if you're into that) it's really that steep. Parks are second only to Killington and Carinthia, they still have those old school this-feature-could-kill-you vibes that an ex-Mountain Creek park rat like myself really appreciates (especially during vail's family-friendly terrain park genocide). Amenities are decent. If you need heated toilet seats and a gondola butler go to Stratton, Tremblant, or Killington. If you want to visit the absolutely gorgeous Lake Placid area and want a more family-friendly alternative, check out TITUS MOUNTAIN!!!! It's completely uncrowded, the snow is just as good, and it is completely free of the corporate greed currently plaguing our sport (plus it's got night skiing!). Whiteface is the crown jewel of the east. A sliver of state-sanctioned hope that one day, we won't all be eating $25 cheeseburgers in a packed, tastelessly swanky lodge that still manages to smell like skier feet.

i have heard that the lounge is a great place to unwind!

Ive lived and Snowboarded all across the East Coast and Whiteface is by far my favorite Mountain. 3.5k ft vertical, by far the most in the East. Its a true vertical, unlike other mountains that cheat in this stat with separate base areas, Whiteface only has one base, and it flows beautifully.
The trails are so unique, none are the same, each have their own character, unlike other resorts that have a grid like layout. Lookout mountain is the gem. Hoyts High, Wilmington Trail, Lookout Below, some of the best trails in the East. The summit is spectacular, the views are out of this world. Never been on the slides, but I hear they are amazing, just another plus to add.
The Cloudsplitter, 10th mnt div, and high country glades are amazing as well. The only negative is it is windy which can blow away some powder, but thats the magic of hoyts high, the powder usually ends up there. And overall I wouldnt say its more icy than any other east cost mnt, theres always a good amount of packed powder. The snowmakers also do a great job. And shout-out to excelsior- another A+ trail.

Not happy with the customer experience. Staff did not care in the least that we had a big group and we wanted to have the fire pit on while we had a drink.

Everything is good at whiteface

whiteface gets a lot of snow. The groomers also do an awesome job over the night so the skiers can do their best skiing. They also have great snow machines and use them a lot. They also have the longest runs and tallest verticle in the east and it is the closest you can get to west coast skiing.
