I had hoped maybe this year would be different, but little has changed here. Rather than replacing the tired, ancient summit triple chair, Vail corp. has inexplicably replaced a lower mountain lift that virtually no one ever used. Gee… thanks.
I will say that there are more midweek lifts open this season than last season, however there is very little terrain open here still, despite several significant snow storms. The snow is on the trails, but they are ungroomed and roped off. What a terrible waste. The terrain that is open is icy and poorly groomed. Most of the surfaces I skied on this past week consisted of hard “death cookies”. Others were simply dust on crust.
What is the deal here?
If Vail cares so little for this once enjoyable mountain, then why not sell it off? After four or five concurrent seasons of these conditions it appears that things will only get worse.
Two positive notes: the lines are not bad this year. I’m guessing the word has gotten out about Attitash’s sad state, and no one wants to ski here anymore.
Additionally, Vail has said that they will replace the old summit triple with a high speed lift for next season.
Now it just remains to be seen if they can staff the place with potentially more people when and if this all happens. Will there be enough snowmakers and groomers to make the snow skiable? Will there be enough ski patrol to cover the resort’s acreage? Something’s got to give here before this once lovely ski area closes for good.

I know this season hasn't gotten off to the best start, but I've been making the most of it at attitash. The lack of lift lines and the fact that they run every lift 7 days a week is awesome.
Snowmaking and grooming has done a great job, there isn't really any ice until the trails get really skied off by the end of the day and 22 runs is pretty good considering the way the weather has been.
The progression quad is a great addition and providers a place for progressing beginners or in my case some good runs to get back in skiing shape after ten years of not skiing.
The only con is the summit triple, which is very slow. It's being replaced this summer so we won't have to deal with it for long.
Also, I don't even bother crossing the street with my gear and I just use the tunnel. I'm glad that it's there but it can be a pain to lug your gear back and forth if you're askier. Not really anybody's fault though as there can be a lot of traffic coming in at 50mph.

Attitash is like that show you hate-watch just to talk to your friends about how bad it is. It’s still skiing so I still have fun, but I’d rather go to any other mountain.
It’s now Feb 19, 2022. Bretton Woods, Cannon, Loon, Cranmore and Wildcat are all 100 percent open or close to it. All these mountains are a close drive to Attitash, which is only 60 percent open. I stay at the Grand because my friends have a condo there, so I can’t turn down the Slopeside experience. I took one of the four lifts open and see closed trails covered with mounds of snow waiting to be groomed. The trails that make the hotel ski on/off are closed. That should be the first run they groom and open. I don’t know why they’re making all this snow and not grooming and opening the runs. They also just got 18 inches and are still closed. The main lift is also the slowest one on the mountain.
Unlike other people on this page I don’t blame Vail resorts. They bought Attitash in 2019. These problems have existed for years. Attitash thinks they’re a five star ski resort but their size and terrain are undermined by poor management. I’d rather go to no frills mountains like Cannon, Wildcat or Shawnee peak that focus solely on quality skiing and don’t try to be something they’re not. I will likely stay at the Attitash Grand once a year for the rest of my life, but for now on I will forgo the Slopeside experience and give my money to a neighboring mountain. I’m grateful that the Grand is no longer owned by the mountain so I won’t give them money by default.

Here we are going into February and at Attitash and Bear Peak there are on average 5 closed lifts each week. Trails to hotel still not open and lift servicing multi-million homes still not running. They close major trails for ski race training when only 50% of trails are open and make costly moves like moving a terrain park two weeks after opening one. There is no communication with pass holders from management which is frustrating when we ask questions of staff and receive back a terrible negative attitude. This is not a winning formula and other options are readily available. Stop giving us pass discounts for crappy service and bring back the Attitash we have enjoyed for 30 years past.

Bummed that I bought an Epic pass this year.
