I am a teacher at Hermon Middle School, a school in the very community in which Hermon Mt. exists. I just found out from my principal, who tried to arrange a 'reward' for one of the classes here (totaling 80 kids), that Hermon Mt. wouldn't accommodate them. #1 they were unwilling to open during the day and #2 they demanded $12 a head (80 X 12 = $960) just to go TUBING. Additionally, our kids would buy food there! And, for some, it would've been their first outing and would undoubtedly return! I still can not believe you, a business in a community in the very town who SUPPORTS you, is unwilling to accommodate this request. We were willing to pay $10/kid by the way. I know I will take my money elsewhere from now on. PS: we send over 20 kids there each Friday and pay for their transportation as part of Winter Skiing. Again, something to reconsider.
not cooperative with school groups unless it's under their terms - $$$

This is a great small mountain. I hadn't skied here before, but was passing though the area and had a free pass. It far exceeded my expectations. There a few notable features: The positives: 1) There are some really cool challenging features. Big rocks, logs and gullies that make challenging little runs. 2) There were no ropes anywhere. Me and the kids could trailblaze through the woods and between trails as we saw fit. 3) The side-country ungroomed terrain was way better than expected. 4) It's cheap. The negatives: 1) It's tiny. 3-5 turns per run. 2) Long lift lines (at least on a beautiful holiday afternoon) 3) long runout at the bottom of most trails.
Small with some cool challenging features
Small with long lift lines

I am someone who goes to this mountain over 25 times a year, so I know a lot about it. It has a very family friendly atmosphere. The lodge is brand-new, and very big. Several things that aren't so great about this mountain are its old lift, small size, halfpipe and food service. On weekends, when its crowded, the food, ticket and lift lines can get very long. The ladies who do the food aren't very friendly, but the food is reasonable. The lift is pretty old, but very reliable. It is never broken down, but will go pretty slow every now and then. It usaully takes 3-4 minutes to get to the top. On busy weekend days, they'll open the t-bar, which helps ease the lines. Mid-winter is really the best time to come, the terrain park is set up, and almost all the trails are open if not all. You can always count on most runs being groomed. Tubing is always really fun, the tubing park has its own lift, and 3-5 lanes, which are about 100' vertical drop. As for the halfpipe, it really isn't good at all. They don't have any special a equipment, so it is not very deep. It's like two big parrallel ridges of snow, which does infact make a great jump. If you are coming here for more than skiing, don't come. The only building at the base is the lodge, which has rentals, food and about twenty arcade games. There is great night skiing though, you can ski till ten on weekday and Saturday nights. If you live in the Bangor area, this is definately a great place to ski or learn to ski. If you are traveling an hour or more to ski here, go to Sugarloaf, Sunday River or even Camden Snowbowl. Unless you are already in town, this isn't much of a vacation mountain. But this mountain is definitely a good one to check off your list. P.S. The date I put for date visited is just, in my opinion, the best time to come, January.
Family Friendly, Good Rentals, Uncrowded Slopes, Variety of Terrain
Slow Lift, Small Vertical Drop, Bad Halfpipe
This is a great little mountain. The staff are friendly and the ski instructors really take care about making sure you learn what you need. Chair lifts are a nice feature over rope pulls adn t-bars on similar sized mountains. The trails are varied and well groomed. Fun mountain, good for beginners and intermediates! The only thing is, is the food staff is incredibly slow and unfreindly. you should expect Really long lines and bad service if you are hungry.
Great ski staff, well groomed, great ski instruction
Slow and unfreindly food/concession staff
Hermon is an awesome place to board for its price and accessibility! My coworkers and I were in Bangor for business and we were stoked to find this little hill only ten minutes away! Being from Southern California, the closeness of this hill was amazing to us. It's not by anywhere near half the most thrilling place you'll board, but it's fun to just go and do it; And with the short travel time from Bangor, and the fact that it's something like $15 for a FULL DAY...you don't really have a lot to complain about, especially when you get some freshies over there. The runs are EXTREMELY short (we're talking under half a minute if you just bomb some of the intermediate runs, or under two minutes for the longer green runs, but that just means extremely short journeys on the lift! Very young crowd (pre-teen to teen), so watch out for the little ones! Have fun!

The snow at Hermon Mountain is wonderful this year! The mountain is very well managed and a great place for family skiing. We have been twice this winter so far and had an awesome time. Very reasonably priced and well run mountain.
